Anxious youth of the young men and women in Norway Finnmark


Photographer Andrea Gjestvang committed camera to record people resist change, exploring social issues and cultural differences. In this work is concentrated Andrea sights on Norway's northernmost county of Finnmark, show local youth life is full of anxiety and unease.



The northern region rich in fishery resources, oil reserves, as well as mineral Norway brought huge wealth, but the arable land scarce so difficult for the development of these remote areas, fisheries privatization in the 1970s devastated the local economy. In this case, the young generation will undoubtedly become the future of Finnmark them shoulder the heavy burden of the of Finnmark future development. However, compared with their peers, these juvenile growth in remote areas are facing another challenge - popular culture to infiltrate their lives through the network, occlusion of the environment and allows them little opportunity to participate.

Andrea's photography project "Everyone knows at a loss (Everybody Knows This is Nowhere)" recorded the Finnmark juvenile dreams and reality gap, a reflection of the social crisis of population decline and globalization brought to a small town.
